Mississippi State University Department of Art Emeritus Professor Brent Funderburk is one of four artists presented in the feature article “Inspiration in Bloom” in the current Issue of Watercolor Artist.

Mississippi painter Brent Funderburk has had recent notice in several national and international art exhibitions, including being awarded the “International Society of Experimental Artists Award” and merchandise prizes in the 2020 National Watercolor Society (NWS) Centennial International Open Exhibition, now on display, through December 20, 2020.

Mississippi based artist Brent Funderburk has recently been notified that two of his artworks have been juried into international exhibitions in Fabriano, Italy, and in Barcelona, Spain.

Brent Funderburk’s watercolor painting “Soul House (Red)” was recently awarded the “Evergreen Artist Association Award” at the 46th Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition (RMNW) at the Center for the Arts Evergreen in Colorado.

No one told me I couldn't do it," said Brent Funderburk. And so, he did.

Funderburk began decades ago honing his unique style of painting with watercolors, of interpreting with intensity, of teaching with passion. For 36 years at Mississippi State University, he inspired the next generations of artists, gathering academic, teaching and research honors along the way.

Concealed in a bungalow among college student housing and campus book stores is the home and studio of one of Starkville's no table artists: Brent Funderburk, internationally acclaimed watercolor painter.
