International Publications and Exhibits Feature Funderburk’s Art

Mississippi State University Department of Art Emeritus Professor Brent Funderburk is one of four artists presented in the feature article “Inspiration in Bloom” in the current Issue of Watercolor Artist.

Developed by Artist Network Editor-in-Chief Anne Hevener, the Summer 2021 magazine offers images and interviews that explore the theme “Garden Party! Four Floral Painters Share Their Best Advice & Breakthroughs”. The ten-page article offers “An Artist’s Field Guide to Flowers”, among other illustrated essays in the quarterly magazine. The Summer 2021 issue of Watercolor Artist is available in bookstores, newsstands and from www.artistsnetwork.com.

Funderburk’s painting “Soul House (Blue)” is featured in the June 2021 Artist’s Magazine annual competition publication SPLASH 22- The Best of Watercolor. The year’s theme is “The Creative Spark” and features 111 artists working internationally who were chosen by juror Keiko Tanabe. The artist also received the International Society of Experimental Artists Award, Holbein Award, Frame Destination Award and Savoir Faire-Isabey Award in the National Watercolor Society International Open Exhibition as well as an Artistic Excellence Special Award at the Missouri Watercolor Society International Exhibition in 2020.

A Giles Distinguished Professor at Mississippi State University, Funderburk taught there for 36 years. His upcoming exhibition “Here and There: Brent Funderburk- Paintings and Drawings 1981- 2021” will look at new work among 40 years of his art at the Mississippi State University Welcome Center/Cullis-Wade Depot Gallery from August 17 to September 17, 2021, with a public reception on September 9th.
