Funderburk to present “Path of Light” exhibition and lectures at the Meridian Museum of Art during October and November in 2024
New paintings and drawings by artist Brent Funderburk are set to be exhibited at the Meridian Museum of Art in Meridian, Mississippi from October 4 to November 30 of this year.
Funderburk, a Mississippi resident and North Carolina native, is a 2024 Mississippi Governor’s Arts Award recipient and William L. Giles Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Mississippi State University, where he taught for 36 years.
Funderburk will speak about “Path of Light” at a public reception which will open the exhibition at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Museum. Featuring some 60 works, the show will include watermedia and oil paintings, as well as drawings in pastel, graphite, charcoal and mixed media.
In association with the Meridian Museum of Art, Funderburk will also give an illustrated lecture on Thursday, October 3rd beginning at 5:30 p.m.at the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (MAX), also in Meridian, titled “Inside Nature- Chasing the Path of Light Through Watercolor”. In his presentation, the artist will explore watermedia as a personal quest and as cultural history, noting dynamic processes of traditional and contemporary American visionary artists in water-based media.
On Thursday, September 12, an exhibit walk-through talk, “Ecstasy: Walter Anderson’s Transcendent Moment” will be presented by Funderburk at 5:30 p.m. in the MAX exhibition gallery. Funderburk, who has curated national \touring shows of Anderson’s art and taught university courses dedicated to the artist, will speak in conjunction with the national touring exhibition “The South’s Most Reclusive Artist- Walter Inglis Anderson”, on display at the MAX from September 1 to November 30, 2024.
Brent Funderburk’s artwork has been exhibited and published widely; regionally, nationally and internationally, has been presented in 35 one-person shows, and is represented in many public and private collections. He has lectured across the US in museums, galleries, and universities.
The Meridian Museum of Art is located at 628 25th Avenue in Meridian, MS, and is open, with no admission fee, Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Meridian Museum of Art (MMA) opened in 1970 and is housed in the historic Old Carnegie Library building, which was constructed in 1912-13, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a Mississippi Landmark. The Museum seeks to promote and support the art, artists, and art programs of the area and region.
