Funderburk Lectures in Santa Fe, NM, and Jackson, MS

Brent Funderburk, Professor of Art at Mississippi State University, will present “Infinite Simplicity: Readings from Robert Henri’s The Art Spirit” at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, MS on Tuesday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m.

The illustrated talk is part of the presentation of the exhibition Spanish Sojourns- Robert Henri and the Spirit of Spain, currently showing through January 4, 2015 at the museum. Roger Ward, Ph.D, curator of the exhibit Robert Henri and Spain, Face to Face, will also speak about the influence of Spain and Spanish artists on Robert Henri, and a performance by the Ensemble Polonaise will present music to Henri’s .

Funding for the evening’s presentations is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council, and Trustmark. The event is free to the public. (link to MMA here)

Funderburk recently gave an invited lecture, “Art and Architecture: Syn-Aesthetic Twins”, to the 2014 American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) Western Mountain Region Conference (October 16-19) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The annual conference, which gathered architects and allied professionals from the six state WM AIA region (New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming), was themed around “The Art of Architecture”, and featured lectures, workshops and exhibitions in the Santa Fe Convention Center, museums and galleries. (link to WM AIA here) has taught for thirty-two years at Mississippi State University, and is currently lecturing on subjects such as Robert Henri, Walter Anderson, and his recent series of paintings, “New Solar Myths: Dreams of Palladio”.
