2020 will showcase new Funderburk artworks in Spain and Italy
Mississippi based artist Brent Funderburk has recently been notified that two of his artworks have been juried into international exhibitions in Fabriano, Italy and in Barcelona, Spain.
Juror Thomas W. Schaller has selected 169 paintings, including Funderburk’s “Soul House (Blue)” (2019), to be exhibited in Barcelona, Spain this spring. With entries from France, Canada, Norway, China, Greece, and across the U.S., the Missouri Watercolor Society will present its 2020 International Juried and Judged Exhibition at the Barcelona Academy of Art (BAA) and the European Museum of Contemporary Art (MEAM). The show will be on exhibit from April 24 to May 20, with a reception on April 24 at the BAA. Awards totaling more than $7500 will be announced at the reception, as selected by judge Fealing Lin.
Funderburk’s 2019 watercolor “From Who I Am to Where I’m Going” has been chosen to be on exhibit at the 6th Biennial International Prize “Fabriano Watercolor 2020 (“Marche d’Acqua”)” founded by Fabriano, Italy, Creative City of UNESCO and by the Paper and Watermark Museum of Fabriano (MCF). The exhibition by the artists invited to exhibit their works of art will be held in Fabriano from June 13 to August 30, 2020 and may be re-proposed in other venues in Italy and abroad. As a part of the XIII UNESCO Creative Cities Conference in Fabriano, the international biennale is one of the most respected venues for watercolor artists in the world. Winners will receive a one-person show at the museum, among other prizes.
Fourteen members of the international jury each nominated four artists worldwide to comprise the show of art at the Museum of Fabriano. The “Marche d’Acqua” exhibit opens at a reception on June 13, 2020, with the announcement of awards and the presentation of the hardback exhibition catalogue.
The two honored paintings, “From Who I Am to Where I’m Going”, and “Soul House (Blue)”, are part of Funderburk’s series of large, watermedia works, entitled “Re-Inflorescence- A Second Flowering”, which can be viewed on the website www.brentfunderburk.com. Brent Funderburk, a North Carolina native, is a Professor Emeritus and William L. Giles Distinguished Professor of Art at Mississippi State University.
