Deep Harvest (1990)

My first full semester sabbatical in 1990 sent me to Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf coasts, and finally into the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia as a Fellow of the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences. Nothing clicked until I entered my rustic cabin after a long search for “The Subject” to find a scant sun ray smacking a basket of fruit. A gift, placed on the table by a Hambidge director (to make up for my complaint about mice crawling over me/my bed at night?) while on my oh-so-important odyssey, the harvest of gorgeous nature candy glowed ferociously, stopping my wanderlust. “Deep Harvest” (1990) became a landscape/still life of this small island of superabundance.
