Funderburk Artwork Touring Six Chinese Museums in 2016

Brent Funderburk, a William L. Giles Distinguished Professor at Mississippi State University, currently has artwork chosen to be a part of the 2016 National Traveling Exhibition following its display in the 2015-2016 Shenzhen International Watercolor Biennial in Shenzhen, China.

One of 150 works jurors selected for the traveling show from the 233 work exhibit at the Shenzhen Art Museum/Luohu Cultural Center in Shenzhen (the 4th largest Chinese city with over 11 million people), Funderburk’s “Flying World” was one of only 36 selected from US artists, from a total of 3,779 entries worldwide, representing 73 countries and provinces. Jurors from China, UK, France and Australia formed the exhibition jury for this one of the world’s largest competitive exhibits dedicated to water-based painting media. Total award money for the show was over $90,000.

The national tour will present the exhibit in the following museums across China: Shenzhen Museum of Art, Shenzhen (Dec., 2015- Jan., 2016), Jinling Art Museum, Nanjing/Jiangsu Province (April, 2016) Zhejiang Art Museum, Hangzhou City/Zhejiang Province (TBD), Guangxi Art Museum, Nanning City/Guangxi Province (TBD), Wuhan Art Museum, Wuhan City/Hubei Province (TBD), and Qingdao Art Museum, Qingdao City/Shandong Province (TBD).

Funderburk has taught painting and drawing in the Department of Art in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design at Mississippi State University since 1982.
